Tino
Hernandez receives award from Round Rock Police Department
for teaching Spanish to officers
On
January 11, 2004 during a regular monthly El Amistad Club meeting,
a motion was made and a unanimous vote of support was taken from
30 plus members of the El Amistad Club of Round Rock . This event
is very significant because fellow El Amistad Club Members singled
out Tino Hernandez for nomination for “KVUE’s FIVE WHO
CARE” Award. The El Amistad Club tenured members, each a very
committed civic-minded volunteer and very sensitive to the personal
sacrifices of the vocation of volunteerism, had selected out of
their ranks, the “consummate volunteer”. True to Tino’s
personality and demeanor (quiet and unassuming), he was humbled
and attempted instead to single out others amongst the group as
more deserving of the honor. His peers were adamant and prevailed
in gaining Tino’s permission to submit his name to KUVE.
Tino is married to Maria Lucinda "Lucy" Hernandez.
Tino has four children (three girls and a boy). Two of the girls
are twins all four live in the Round Rock area. Tino loves to play
the classic guitar. Tino thoroughly enjoys practicing his faith
and the fellowship offered at his church, St. Williams Catholic
Church, where he has attended for many years. Tino is a people person
and a very strong positive active member of the following community
organizations: El Amistad Club, Lions Club, Kiwanas, Knights of
Columbus, Sertoma, and Morning Rotary Club. Tino has served on committees
/ boards for Berkman Elementary, the United Way, Williamson Co.
Mental Health and Austin Diocese Medical Missions.
Since 1982 after moving back to Round Rock, where he was born and
raised, Tino has “walked the walk” of a caring volunteer.
Tino is best described a “volunteer for all seasons”.
The caring volunteer community knows if it’s winter Tino is
emerged during this Thanksgiving and Christmas season as a leader
in “Annie’s Way” and “Just Because”.
If it is spring Tino is helping organize and kick off the annual
El Amistad Club Memorial Weekend “Fiesta”. If it’s
summer Tino is coordinating the Austin Diocese Medical Mission.
If it’s the fall Tino is involve with the Chamber of Commerce,
Saint Williams Church functions, RRISD and various Civic Club activities.
Tino is an active member in “good standing” with El
Amistad Club, Lions, Sertomas, Knights of Columbus, Kiwanas, Morning
Rotary Club, and the Round Rock Chamber of Commerce.
